A belated message of affection in memory of someone who played such a large part in the development of so many young people. As a pupil at Southway Community College I was never formally taught by Mrs Ashley, but as a participant in both the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Ten Tors schemes that she single-handedly led, I learnt so much from her about appreciating and respecting the outdoors, its dangers and its delights that I never would have developed such a fondness for walking and camping in the wilderness. The next time I pass through Ditsworthy Warren or head up Plym steps I will raise my flask of tea and say a toast to Jill and to Mike who kept all us outward bounders on time and pace to make sure we always met the minibus before it was time to put our escape routes into action.
Such a wonderful lady, friend and neighbour, we shall miss her greatly. Always in our hearts 💕 xxx
A wonderful lady and teacher x
